Chapter Directors Comments
Do you remember hearing about those poor people, who live up North, and
how they have to winterize their motorcycles and sadly put them away for the
winter? Well, we have that sad feeling right now. Our Wing has some problems
that have to be addressed before we can do any more riding. This has brought
up a lot of issues that we had not previously considered. Aside from the lack of riding, it
has put a damper on a whole bucket full of other activities. Y‟s Chapter Dinner Rides are
not the same when you go in a mini-van. Visiting other Chapters is not as much fun when
you arrive in a mini-van. Going on a Retreads ride…well, that‟s just not going to happen
without the Wing. Do you begin to see our dilemma? Things take on a different feeling
when you can‟t ride. After all...that‟s what we love to do…RIDE!
When all of our Y friends ride and we drive our car to a motorcycle function, it makes
us feel different, like something is not quite right, and the only way to make it right is to
ride the Wing. Chapter life has certainly changed the way we look at things. All of the
above would not have been issues before we joined our Chapter Y Family. Now these
things are important. We want to do what our Chapter Y family is doing, the same way
they are doing it. Riding!
This brings up the matter of our Chapter Y Family. It is our family. We make a lot of
our decisions about our daily schedule, based on what Chapter Y is doing on any given
day. This applies all year, not just during a certain season; and like all families, they
forgive our handicaps (broken motorcycle). They are tolerant of our oddities (driving a
mini-van on a dinner ride, etc.).
Consequently, when and if your bike breaks down, don‟t become paranoid and think
that everyone is talking about you and the fact that you are driving a mini-van or a sedan
to a Chapter visitation. Don‟t quit going just because you don‟t have the proper ride. Do
the best you can with what you have. This sounds a little silly, but that‟s the way we feel.
*(Editor‟s Note: Oscar Wilde wrote: The only thing to do with good advice is to pass it on. It is never
of any use to oneself.” Don‟t you agree that Arnold is passing on good advice?)*
Doing things with the Chapter and our friends has become a very important part of our
lives. It is something we enjoy and look forward to.
We hope to see you soon.
Remember: “If it can‟t be fixed, then it‟s not broke.”
