Webster’s definition of eliminate is to remove,
eradicate, pass or leave out. Elimination can be mental or physical. That
which is eliminated can be materialistic, biological, an action or word of
mouth. The elimination to be discussed at this time is the elimination of
the use of certain words. These words are don’t, can’t and won’t.
How often have you heard, I can’t do it, it is
too hard. Don’t do it, you might hurt yourself. I don’t want to do it, I’ll
get my hands dirty. Don’t do it, people will think you’re crazy. I won’t do
it, because, because, because. Elimination of the use of these words will
improve our attitude, give us a much improved outlook on life and reduce
stress levels which will help us live longer.
The words don’t, can’t and won’t do have a
limited place in our vocabulary. There are physical limitations that affect
all of us in one form or another that prevent us from being able to do
certain things. Laws, rules and social morals regulate things we should or
should not do. What needs to be eliminated is the use of these words as an
excuse not to do something, for whatever unsubstantial reason, or to prevent
another person to explore the opportunity to expand their learning and to
grow as a person. To say you or others can’t, don’t or won’t do something
that is morally right, within the law, physically and mentally possible and
places no one in harm’s way, is to in prison yourself or others into an
unfruitful and unenjoyed life.
Replace can’t, don’t and won’t with: sounds like
fun, that’s an interesting ideal, let’s try it, or I can do it. By this time
next week, month, or year, I will have done it. Be positive, seek ideas and
help. Encourage others in their attempts to learn and experience new things.
Ride safe, eliminate, learn something new.
