CHAPTER “Y” HISTORY

Chapter “Y” received it’s Certificate of Chartership from the National Goldwing Road Riders Association, in Phoenix, Arizona on   January 11, 1992.

Since that date the Chapter membership has grown from only a hand full of members, to it’s current membership of 100, plus.  The Chapter is comprised of residents primarily of Rutherford and Cannon Counties in Tennessee, however we have members who reside as far away as Manchester, Sparta and Spencer, but travel to participate in our Chapter’s activities.

The Chapter logo is well known throughout the Tennessee District, as we are one of the most active Chapters within the state.  The primary logo or Chapter patch depicts the area in which the Chapter is located.  The Chapter’s official name is

“HEART OF TENNESSEE WINGS”   

The elements of the logo:

Outline of Tennessee – depicts the Tennessee District

Gold Y – identifies the Tennessee Chapter designation assigned

Within the Y – GWRRA indicates association with the Gold Wing       

                  Road Rider Association National organization

-      The heart and gold wings, signify the “Heart of

Tennessee Wings”

-      The Iris and Walking Horse are characteristics

peculiar to the Middle Tennessee area where the

Chapter is located.  The Tennessee Walking Horse industry is predominately located in Middle Tennessee.  The Iris (Genus Iridaceae) is the Tennessee State Flower.

Above is the official Chapter Logo for the “Heart of Tennessee Wings”, however for the purpose of Chapter apparel the below logo may be seen on some of the shirts and jackets worn by Chapter members.  It was developed by founding members of the Chapter and provides an abbreviation of the Chapter’s name and a shorter acronym easier to apply to Chapter apparel.

CHAPTER “Y” COUPLES OF THE YEAR

The Goldwing Road Riders Association Couple of the Year program was instituted in 1988 and is a way to honor couples at the local level, and to select enthusiastic duos to serve as ambassadors and spokespersons for GWRRA.  It has evolved into a useful tool for identifying and helping prepare couples for leadership positions within the organization.  First, and foremost, the program provides an opportunity for local Chapters to recognize and honor a couple each year for their constant dedication, accomplishments and participation within the Chapter.  Secondly, it establishes a process for identifying outstanding couples who can serve their Districts, Regions, and ultimately the International GWRRA organization as ambassadors and spokespersons.  Members of Chapter “Y” who have been selected and participated as Couples of the Year are:
